Abounding In Hope

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Romans 15: 13

One of the most beautiful wonders of the Holy Spirit is the ability to give us hope! Are you looking for hope in a world of turmoil? If so I appeal to you to surrender to our Lord and watch peace and hope become a staple in your life. Who is our Lord? Why is this scripture so important? Well lets dig a little deeper.

As we look closely at this scripture we see that it starts with now – de in the Greek which means there was something important that precedes it – therefore; it is important to explain this now that is spoken of.

You see Paul had already established in the previous verses who we are having hope in. Our hope is in the root of Jesse. For the 12th verse says:

There shall be a root of Jesse; And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, In Him the Gentiles shall hope.

Romans 15: 12

So our hope is in the Lord Jesus our Savior. Who is Jesus? He is our God who has been here from the beginning and yet He is the comforting Word for the Word… the scriptures are here for our guidance and our hope. As stated below:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1: 1

So you see our life, once surrendered, is given to the one who’s been here from the beginning but for our sake He stepped down from his authoritative place in heaven and humbled himself in the form of man in order to be the perfect sacrifice for us.

Well who else is Jesus? He is Yahweh Rohi – Our Shepherd for in John 10:11 He says

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. Yes he laid down his life for us to have life, eternally.

Jesus is Yahweh Rapha the Lord who heals, for 1 Peter 2:24 says

He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

You see we are healed spiritually, mentally and physically when we trust and believe in our Lord who heals.

Jesus is El Olam – our life giving light for John 1:4 says

In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

Jesus is my everything and I want you to have that same blessing!

Now, it’s one thing to know who you have hope in but what does it mean to have this hope spoken of in Romans 15:13? Once again let’s dig a little deeper.

In the beginning the verse says may the God of HOPE! Think about it? What does it mean to have hope?

Hope is defined as an expectation. So once again we are going back to mindset (remember the post about our minds http://viviwrites.com/gaining-his-mind/) What are you expecting from our God of hope? Hope is expectation! Hope is also translated as having confidence in. Are you confident in our Lord? Are we confident that He WILL bring us through?

My expectation is in the Lord my savior. My Yeshua! When we have our confident hope in Him we will have Joy and Peace simply because we believe.

This belief means we will commit to him, we will put our trust in Him because we are already persuaded to do that which He would have us to do. You see that is what it means to believe.

So now that you know who we have hope in and we’re walking in the joy and peace of the Lord with a commitment to believe, guess what happens?

The power of the Holy Spirit will make all the difference in your life!

Last question? Why do we need the Holy Spirit? Some ask why is Holy Spirit important when it comes to hope.

First of all, the Holy Spirit is God also. 1 Corinthians 2:11 says No one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Yet, the Holy Spirit is also our Lord Jesus.

Peter said to her, how could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord

Acts 5:9

But, when we speak of the Power of the Holy Spirit is is relevant. Luke 1:35 says

The Holy Spirit will come on you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.

Luke 1:35

Yes the Holy Spirit will overshadow you!

Romans 8:26 says the Spirit helps us in our weaknesses and Romans also says in 8:21 through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free. So you see the Holy Spirit brings freedom, life and power! Why? you may ask. To help us. Even in John 14:16 Jesus said

I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever

Glory to God! Our advocate – that means one that defends, stands up for and supports. Our advocate will be with us forever. That’s the Holy Spirit!

And so the Holy Spirit gives us the power to have an abundance of hope. That’s what abound means! Abundance! Overflow! A large amount!

No matter what’s going on around you. No matter what you see in the news or anywhere else. Know that because you know who Jesus is… Because you are committed to Christ… Because you believe and trust Him… And because you received the gift of salvation and the Holy Spirit… you can be filled with all joy and peace… Abounding in hope through the very power of the Holy Spirit!
